Naberhood walk

On Thursday 13 March, we organised a Neighbourhood Walk, a tour of the coziest places in Deurne-North. Together, we explored the neighbourhood and discovered the community centres, libraries, service centres, movie theatres... that give colour to our neighbourhood. So we were welcomed with open arms in the Vijver vzw, service centre Kerkeveld, the Huis van het Kind (House of the Child), community centre Dinamo, cinema Rix and library Couwelaar, where we were each given a word of explanation.

Afterwards, you could take part in a cosy and hearty neighbourhood meal/Iftar.

Our message? Look what beautiful and hopeful initiatives we have in our neighbourhood! Hidden somewhere in the streets we walk through every day, without realising it. We wanted to break the individualistic narrative and connect different people.

And with more than 40 local residents, volunteers and professionals present - and in the company of aldermen Frank Vercammen and Karen Maes - we succeeded magnificently. They were able to sit together and talk about their dreams and concerns, about life in the neighbourhood, about why the Drie Torenkes are called the Drie Torenkes - and of course about how delicious the Harira soup was.
